Four Jungulars Released from Detention


Four jungulars have this morning been released from detention, more than two years after they arrested and detained for their alleged roles in series of killings and torture during the regime of Yahya Jammeh.

The army spokesperson Major Lamin Sanyang confirmed the release of Malick Jatta, Amadou Badjie, Omar A. Jallow and Pa Ousman Sanneh.

He told The Chronicle that four jungulars were released following instruction from the authorities.

They were released less than a week after the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubacarr Tambadou announced his decision to recommend for  their release in exchange for their confessions to killings and torture at the TRRC. According to him, releasing the jungulars was in the best interest of their victims and the country.

Victims expressed outrage at the decision, calling it a slap in the face.
