The purging of the UDP handpicked public officials has resumed. The latest casualty is Baba Fatajo, the Managing Director of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC). Mr. Fatajo received his marching orders on June 20th 2019, per a letter from the President’s Office. Fatajo was told that he was going to be paid one-month salary following the termination of his services.
As usual, no reason was given for his removal. He was said to have been replaced by Alpha Robinson, a Gambian mechanical engineer. Robinson studied in China. He has not lived in The Gambia for the past 40 years. He recently visited home, following the change of government back in 2016.
Robinson was contacted for comment via his Facebook page, but he hasn’t responded to our journalistic query yet. He is believed to be residing in the United Kingdom. He onetime lived in Germany, before moving to the UK.
